Aims: Unhealthy nutrition the cause of 35% cancer death. Modification of dietary patterns from childhood and beginning adulthood and having good nutritional behaviors is very important to prevent diseases. This study aimed to determine predictive factors of nutritional behaviors based on the extended theory of reasoned action among high school female students of Ahvaz city, Iran.
Materials & Methods In this cross-sectional, 173 high school female students were randomly selected from two girls' government schools in Ahvaz city in year of 2018. Data collection were used a questionnaire including demographic characteristics, development Theory of Reasoned Action and nutritional behaviors questions. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling in SPSS 23 and AMOS software.
Findings The mean age of the students was 14.01± 0.75 years. The behavioral intention variance was determined by any of the structures attitude (ß = 28%), subjective norms (ß = 15%) and self-efficacy (ß = 49%) which show self-efficacy in the most powerful and subjective norms weakest predictor respectively. It was also revealed 56% and 24% behavioral intention changes and nutritional behavior changes of students predicted by the model respectively. The fitting indexes of the model showed that the model is goodness.
Conclusion The theory of reasoned action developed with the self-efficacy construct seems to be a suitable theory for predicting nutritional behaviors of female students. So it is recommended to use it in educational interventions designing.
